About ThinLinX Pty Ltd
ThinLinX builds its own hardware, provides software services and hosts specific business applications. Our software runs on our specifically designed hardware, the Hot-e®, or existing Personal computers (PC's). This enables a complete turn-key solution by accessing centrally controlled data, and thereby eliminating the complexity of desktop computing. ThinLinx has recently entered the Thin-client industry by releasing our ultra compact product the Hot-e®.

Frequently Asked Questions
I like what I see, when can I buy a Hot-e?
The TLX100, TLX400, TLX450 and TLX500 will be available in Q1 2009
I want one now, why the delay?
We had intended to make the announcement in January 2009 but the news media found out what we were up to and the story has been picked up by many newspapers around the world. A limited number of pre-release Hot-e TLX400 clients will be available for beta trials before the high volume production runs commence in Q1 2009. Click here for the Early Bird Trials of the Hot-e TLX 400. Join Now!.
OK, I forgive you, how do I buy a Hot-e in Q1 2009?
To keep the cost as low as possible we only sell via direct Web based sales.
I want to order 50, do I get a discount?
Our margins are low which does not allow us to offer bulk discounts at this stage.
How do I become a distributor?
We are not appointing any distributors, but you can still value add your solution to the Hot-e by selling Linux or Windows Server solutions as part of your value added package
I want to set up my own Windows or Linux Server, can you help with that?
ThinLinX will provide comprehensive Server installation and configuration information via our website in time for the release of the TLX series.
I want to run a 50 client network at my School, what type of Server do I need?
We will supply Server Sizing information on our Website which will help you determine how powerful the Server should be, and how much RAM memory the Server requires for each Hot-e Client
What Operating System runs on the Hot-e?
The TLX400, 450 and 500 series Hot-e's can be ordered with either Network boot enabled or Linux or WinCE installed in the onboard NAND Flash memory chip.
What Operating System runs on the TLX100 SCADA Industrial monitoring Hot-e?
Linux or FreeBSD
What can I use the Hot-e for apart from a desktop replacement computer?
The TLX400, 450 and 500 series can be ordered with the Viewtouch Restaurant / Bar Point Of Sale (POS) system installed in Flash memory.
That sounds great, but how much extra do I need to pay for the Viewtouch POS installation?
In keeping with our low cost mantra, we only charge an extra US$200 for the POS System. A TLX400 with Viewtouch POS installed would be less than US$300
US$300 for a Restaurant/Bar POS is unheard of, what about support?
Support will be available via self help Web based information and Video clips or a monthly fee for more comprehensive help and software update support.
I have a Windows Terminal Server, can I use the Hot-e to display Windows and do I have to use a WinCE version of the Hot-e for Windows?
The Hot-e version of WinCE is being optimised to give the best possible performance when displaying Windows desktops. Linux will work using rdesktop http://www.rdesktop.org/ but the performance will not be as good as WinCE.
I have heard that thin clients are not very good with Multimedia, is the Hot-e the same as the rest?
We will be supplying an optional Multimedia capable version of the Hot-e for customers that require Multimedia performance similar to a standard desktop PC (WinCE version only)
What's this Cloud computing thing that everyone is talking about?
Cloud computing is the latest term to describe Desktops or Applications running on remote Server Farms. These Desktops or Applications can be accessed via a Hot-e.
I heard that Cloud Computing used to be called ASP or SaaS and was not too successful in the past, why should it work now?
A lot has changed in the last five years, Broadband is now widely available and affordable, The Server Side Hardware and Software has improved tremendously and of course there is now a low cost Hot-e device to access the Cloud from the customer client side.
Is ThinLinX planning to become a Cloud computing supplier by running it's own Server farms.
We would like to think that eventually we would be in a position to do this, but not in the short term due to the prohibitive cost of establishing large Server Farms. However, we do intend to partner with selected Internet Service Providers (ISP) to assist in the deployment of ISP Cloud computing solutions that use the Hot-e as part of the solution.
What is the Industrial Monitoring SCADA TLX100 Hot-e all about?
This is a cut down version of the Hot-e without Video or Audio capabilities and is used solely for various monitoring solutions. The TLX100 is currently being used for monitoring the power output of Solar Panels, Wind Generators and also temperature monitoring. There are many applications where this type of low cost, lower power consumption hardware is required.
Do you have a mailing list to keep me up to date on developments at ThinLinX?
We are setting up a mailing list in the next few weeks
What about forums?
Linux, WinCE and FreeBSD Forums will be available on our Website shortly to enable users of the Hot-e to collaborate and help each other. The Forums will also be monitored by ThinLinX on a regular basis to provide help and feedback for Hot-e users.
I want to set up a Linux Server and use the Hot-e to display Linux desktops how do I do this?
This information will be supplied via our Website
I want to hack the Linux Kernel, where is the Linux Kernel Source code for the TLX series Hot-e?
The Linux Kernel Source and other GPL Linux source used in our Hot-e solutions will be available from our Website before the TLX series is released.

I read that ThinLinX received an Australian Federal Government grant to assist in the development of the Hot-e. Can you help me?
